Atherton LR in the Goldline Trophy
The Goldline Trophy was started in 1998 for clubs in the Bolton area and served three main purposes. Firstly it was a way of helping clubs raise some extra money. Secondly, it gave an extra interest to pre-season games. Finally, with most clubs having played at one time in the now defunct Bolton Combination, it was a chance to renew old friendships. With the clubs involved playing in many different Leagues now, such as the North West Counties, West Lancs, Manchester and Lancashire Amateur Leagues, most of the teams hadn't met in competitive football for many years despite all playing within a small area.
The Goldline Trophy is organised on a group basis, with the group winners progressing to a knock-out stage. A full list of previous finals is given at the foot of the page.
