THE NEEMA SCHOOL (KENYA) TRUST

The Neema School (Kenya) Trust is a registered charity (No 1118854) set up to help the people in the Kikambala area of Kenya, outside Mombassa.

It's an extremely poor area where children are hungry and have little clothing, and what they have is usually dirty and torn. There is no water supply, no electricity and no sanitation.

The trust aims to build a school, including a toilet block and a well for the village. The work is well under way but much more is needed.

The children play football with great enthusiasm on land near the school, sometimes in bare feet and sometimes with one or two socks on.

So far around £7,000 has been raised. The well has been dug, the toilet block shell has been built, the sceptic tanks have been dug and the foundations for two of the four planned classrooms have been laid.

However, more money is still needed for such things as an electric pump for the well, fencing for the 2.5 acre plot and the continuing building work.

Also, having been invited to watch the children play a football match, the organisers were impressed at the enthusiasm of the youngsters, despite having to kick a ball around barefoot. They promised the children that they would maintain their pitch and through the Manchester probation service, kits are being collected.

More information is available either by looking at this Powerpoint file (you may need to download compatabilty updates from Microsoft if you have an older version of Powerpoint) or you can go to the website at www.guidestar.org and key in the name of the charity.

Unlike larger national charities, the Neema School (Kenya) Trust does not employ any staff or pay for any offices or shops. All costs for the administration of the funds are met by the trustees so that every penny raised goes straight into the fund to pay for the materials and labour needed.

If you have any full or part kits which you no longer have any need for, please consider donating them to this worthy cause. Ring the club on 01942 883950, email lr_16@hotmail.com or ring Brian Seddon on 01942 870872
